General consultations and vaccinations

Our veterinarian surgeon do general health consultations and vaccinations. Regular vaccinations are important to ensure the good health of your pet, especially to protect against life-threatening diseases. Regular visits for vaccinations also allows for a health check for your pet. These checks allow for us to detect diseases when they are in early stages, in order to start effective treatment as soon as possible. Puppies require a course of three vaccinations and kittens require two. Adults require annual vaccines to maintain immunity as well as deworming every three months.

Diagnostics and Equipment

It is important to us to make a diagnosis before we start with treatment where it is possible, in order for us to ensure that we give an accurate prognosis and that the correct treatment takes place.

Without making a diagnosis, only your pet’s symptoms will be treated, which will lead to prolonged suffering and extra costs for you. We make use of the necessary equipment at our facility, as well as other local institutions, in order to ensure a correct diagnosis.

Some of our diagnostic equipment include:
Idexx Catalyst:

Runs blood tests (serum chemistry, electrolytes, haematology), which in some cases is sufficient to make a diagnosis and start treatment. Results are available within 15 minutes.

Digital radiology:

Takes X-rays, which help diagnose lung diseases, intestinal obstructions, fractures, arthritis, certain cancers and bladder stones. Digital radiology is suitable for quick assessments of trauma patients.

Other:

Other techniques used to make a diagnosis, either as support to digital radiology or as stand-alone techniques, include ultrasound scan, endoscopy, MRI scans and CT scans.

Dentistry

An accurate estimation of dentistry costs can only be given after an examination. Pets need to undergo a full health check before being admitted for dental work. Pets undergoing a scale and polish will receive a general anaesthetic, which requires 12 hours starvation.

What does dentistry entail?

A dental scale and polish involves:

  • Examintion of the mouth, including X-rays if needed.
  • Extraction of damaged and diseased teeth.
  • Removal of scale and tartar from teeth making use of an ultrasonic dental scaler.
  • Polishing of teeth with a high-speed dental polisher and special toothpaste.

Some pets may be send home with antibiotic tablets/ painkillers after dental work.

Some pets, such as older pets, might be kept overnight in order to monitor recovery from the anaesthetic and to make sure that they are eating.
