Physiotherapy

We also offer veterinary physiotherapy. This is critical to ensure surgical recovery, such as with spinal surgery, fracture repair and cruciate surgery.

Behavioural consultations

It is important to understand our pets to ensure that the household stays happy. Some pets might show more problematic behaviours than others. In these cases it is important to tackle these problems.

We have an animal behaviourist to ensure that your pet’s issues get resolved. Anle Allisons’ services include assistance with:

  • Management of anxieties (such as separation anxiety) and phobias (such as noise phobia).
  • Managing of aggressive pets.
  • Introduction of new pets to household.
  • Treating unwanted behaviour.

Consultations can take place at the practise, via home visits or via telephone. Puppy socialisations that are part of a six-week course are also offered.

Hills Puppy School

Course duration: Six weeks, every Thursday from 17:00 to 18:00

This course is designed for you as well as your puppy to get used to each other. The course covers a variety of topics. Owners learn about training techniques, while puppies learn basic obedience command.

Hills Weight Loss Clinic

This programme is designed to get your pet back to ideal weight and health as studies show that more than half the patients Vets see are overweight, with their owners unaware of the health risks associated with this.

Every pet has an ideal weight to its individual size and body composition. We offer fantastic support and lovely rewards for enrolling and meeting weight loss milestones.

With metabolic and pet food you can expect something different – 88% of pets lost weight in two months, taking their profile from “fat storing” to “fat burning”, and also reduce the risk of rebound weight gain.

We offer free consultations at the practice, with weight in’s every second week. Please arrange for your appointment early to ensure that we can assist you timeously.

Golden Oldies

Dogs are considered to be senior from the age of eight and cats from the age of nine.

As pets get older, many things can be done to help your pet live longer. More frequent check-ups and observations for changes in behaviour and physical appearance are required. We know how much pets mean to their families. That is why we are committed to ensuring that your pet lives a long, full life.

Consultations will allow for you to discuss any concerns you might have about your pet’s health. Thorough examinations, which include urine and blood sampling, as well as a heart examination, will allow for us to detect any problems early so that diseases can be cured or slowed down in time.

Canine Blood Bank

It is possible for animals to donate blood, just like humans, without harm.
Animals also have different blood groups, which can be tested for with our test kits.

If you feel like your dog can save another pet’s life by donating blood,
please contact Cathy on 016 976 0875, or email
cathy@sasolburgveearts.com

In order to donate blood, your dog must:
  • Weigh more than 25kg.
  • Be between one and six years old.
  • Be fully vaccinated.
  • Be fully dewormed.
  • Be healthy.
  • Be calm.
  • Not have had a blood transfusion before.

At this stage, we only accept dogs as blood donors. No cats.

Blood transfusions are needed for pets that:
  • Are anaemic.
  • Have a clotting problem.
  • Have a critical blood protein loss.
What happens on the day of donation:
  • The quantity and appearance of red blood cells will be tested by taking a small sample.
  • A clinical examination will be performed to check your dog’s health.
  • The donor will be weighed.
  • A small patch will be shaved on the neck of the donor, since this is where the jugular vein is located, which is the preferred site of collection.
  • Owners are encouraged to assist, but it is not essential.

Since donation is performed without sedation, we slowly introduce your pet to all aspects of donation over several visits, in order to desensitise him/ her.

450ml of blood/ 1 unit can be donated for every 25kg of weight. Dogs can donate blood every 4-6 weeks.
